Location: Site Configuration > {Module} > Field Usage
This configuration section deals with filtering fields defined under Field Definition. Such filtering may be required in the following cases:
when configuring field templates (created under Field Templates);
when you want to prevent certain fields from being displayed in those parts of the system where they would appear irrelevant or inappropriate for the user to view or edit.
Accordingly, the Field Usage section is comprised of the following two subsections:
Template — this is where you configure field templates by specifying which fields should be included in which templates.
Display — this is where you specify which fields should and which should not be displayed in certain parts of the system.
You can customize each of the above configurations per access right, so that the user with a particular access right will only see the fields configured specifically for that right. The Standard access type refers to all access rights defined for the site.

By default, every new template you create under Field Templates contains all of the fields defined in the module. To configure the template field content, follow these steps:
On the toolbar, click Edit Field Usage.
In the dialog box that opens, click the Templates tab.
In the Access Rights box, select the access right you want to configure the template for.
Limiting the display of fields ensures that only relevant fields are visible to the user in specific contexts and also helps to prevent export of data.
To configure the display of fields, follow these steps:
On the toolbar, click Edit Field Usage.
In the dialog box that opens, click the Display tab.
In the Access Rights box, select the access right you want to configure the field display for.
Use the checkboxes under the labels designating certain areas in the system to specify which fields should be displayed in this or that area. To make a field available, select the checkbox opposite the field name; to make a field unavailable, clear the checkbox (in certain cases this will only mean the unavailability of the field content — the field name will remain visible to the user).
The table below lists places in the system where fields from items are displayed and which can be configured to display fewer fields (Area affected). In some instances the user will still be able to see field names, but their content will be unavailable (e.g., the user may see the names of fields in an email, but not the actual field data).
