Overview

Encodify supports a wide variety of file formats, including, but not limited to, documents, images, videos, and more. This page offers a non-exhaustive list of the supported formats, along with an explanation of how each is processed within the platform.

File names uploaded to the system may include any characters supported by the locale encoding, except for the following special characters: \ / * ? | ! " # $ % & : ; < = > ? @. If a file name contains any of these characters, they will automatically be replaced with underscores ("_") to ensure compatibility and prevent processing issues.

Default File Type Icon

Encodify supports the display of identifiable icons for specific file formats within the preview window. For supported file types that cannot be fully previewed, a default icon corresponding to their format will be shown instead. Below is the list of file extensions for which corresponding icons will be displayed:

  • Document Formats: "indd", "ind", "qxd", "eps", "ps", "pdf", "xls", "xlsx", "sxc", "ppt", "pptx", "sxi", "doc", "docx", "rtf", "sxw", "pps", "txt", "swx"

  • Image Formats: "bmp", "png", "psd", "gif", "tif", "tiff", "jpg", "jpeg"

  • Archive Formats: "zip", "gz", "gzip", "tgz", "tar"

  • Video Formats: "mpg", "mpeg", "mp4", "mpg4", "mpeg4", "mov", "ra", "avi", "wmv", "swf", "flv", "asf", "rm", "dv"

  • Audio Formats: "wav", "aif", "aiff", "wma", "snd", "mp3", "aac", "m4a", "au"

For these formats, a default icon will appear in the preview window instead of a full preview of the file’s content.
