# Understanding Bar Charts

## Overview

---

The **Bar Chart Widget** allows you to present your data in a bar or column chart format, categorised and aggregated for easy visual comparison. It's useful for spotting trends or comparing values, such as the number of tasks by status.

Once a **Bar Chart Widget** has been configured, it will appear on the **Workspace**. Users with **Creator**, **Co-owner**, or **Editor** permissions can **drag and drop** the widget to **reposition** and **resize** it as needed.

To enhance readability when working with large data sets, Bar Charts include a "rest" bar. This bar automatically groups together data points that exceed a defined threshold, helping to keep the chart clear and easy to interpret.

The "rest" bar provides a concise overview of the data while still allowing users to explore detailed insights when needed.

This widget supports manual data refresh via the refresh button, available regardless of auto-refresh settings. During refresh, the button is disabled until loading completes. Auto-refresh (if enabled) resumes after a successful manual refresh unless performance thresholds are exceeded. *Note:* The “last updated” timestamp is not updated when data is refreshed via the widget configuration page or by creating/updating an item within the widget.
