# Dark Mode overview

## Overview

Dark mode is a user interface (UI) display setting that uses a dark colour palette—typically black or dark grey—as the background, with light-coloured text and icons. It reverses the traditional "dark text on light background" scheme, offering a high-contrast and often more subdued visual experience.

- **Primary Benefits:**
  - **Reduced Eye Strain:** It minimises glare and reduces the amount of blue light emitted by screens, which is particularly beneficial in low-light or nighttime environments.
  - **Battery Conservation:** On devices with OLED or AMOLED screens, dark mode saves power because pixels displaying black are completely turned off.
  - **Aesthetics & Focus:** Many users find it visually appealing, modern, and better for focusing on content (like code or creative work).

Users can switch between **Bright** and **Dark** modes at any time.
