# Comparing files from child module

## How to Compare Files from Two Different Items

---

To compare files from two different items follow the below steps:

1. Navigate to the **parent module**.
2. Select and open the required item.
3. Expand the **inline module** (the module where Multi-file Proofing is enabled).
4. Select **two items** within the inline module.

## Understanding the Compare Files Proof Viewer

Once you click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/3a63e0a8-1221-4570-aaa1-d43f9b95a612/Images/Documentation/Screenshot 2025-03-19 at 15.57.54.png) **Compare Files** icon, you will be directed to the proof viewer in **Compare View**. The first selected file will appear on the left-hand side, while the second selected file will be displayed on the right-hand side.

From this view, you can:

1. Change the version of either selected file.
2. Replace a selected file with another item from within the inline module.
3. Change the status of the individual child items.
4. Change the status of the parent item

Additionally, you can continue to annotate both files using the standard proofing features available for each file type.
